Excerpt from an article found in the New York Times:

"As General Motors is painfully aware, no car seems to have lost so much of its cool as the Cadillac sedan, which once held popular culture in its thrall. Jimmy Durante, Bing Crosby, John Wayne and Roy Rogers drove Cadillacs. For Elvis, buying them seemed something of an addiction. Long ago, the Sedan de Ville and its cousins were supplanted in drivers' psyches by imports. The most popular luxury import brands — BMW, Lexus, Mercedes — helped lead the way in developing luxury S.U.V.'s."
